Reduced Virus and Bacteria Transmission with The Laser vs. The Drill

Dear Parents-

We may have used the laser for your child during his/her previous visits to avoid the “shot” and to save more tooth structures, especially for small cavities. Now, the laser will also allow us to reduce aerosols with less water flow and air pressure than the drill. Thus, possibly reduce virus and bacterial transmissions during our restorative treatments.

LESS WATER FLOW & AIR PRESSURE = LESS AEROSOLS

  • 67-83% less water flow vs. the drill
  • 74% less air pressure vs. the drill
  • No physical contact

Dental burs rotate at speeds of up to 400,000 RPMs using a high flow of low temperature water, which splatters debris, including viruses and bacteria, around our operatory and onto your child and our team.

Our laser uses a lower water flow, low air pressure, and contact-free cutting minimizes splatter and the risk of transmission.

KILLS VIRUSES & BACTERIA ON CONTACT

Thermal laser energy kills viruses and bacteria better than the drill.

Our laser uses thermal energy to vaporize tooth structure with surface temperatures of over 1,200℃, and cuts soft tissue at over 100℃, killing any viruses and bacteria wherever the laser energy is directed. With drills, surface temperatures remain well below the 60℃ required to kill viruses and bacteria.

Please ask our doctors and team if your child is a candidate for the Laser.

Welcome back to Kids Dental Specialty!

As we reopen our practice for all dental services, we are taking additional steps to KEEP YOU and YOUR CHILD SAFE!

Infection control has always been a top priority in our practice and you may have seen this during your previous visits to our office.
However, during COVID-19, we are also following the American Dental Association (ADA), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations and staying up-to-date with their new rulings and guidance.

You will see the following changes at your child’s next appointment:

  1. Appointments-will be managed by our team to allow social distancing, therefore you will have fewer options for scheduling or reschedule your child’s appointment
  2. Patient screenings- we will ask COVID-19 related questions before your appointment and have you sign the COVID-19 waiver form when you come into our office
  3. Patient’s temperature (<100.4F) – we will check everyone’s temperature at our check-in counter
  4. Social distancing- there will be no waiting in our reception area, no access to our concierge beverage counter nor our toy boxes
  5. Payments- please pay your copays and deductibles with a credit card instead of cash or personal checks
  6. Facemasks- everyone is required to wear a face mask at all time in our office and please bring your own pen to sign forms
  7. Hand washing- we will ask you to wash your hands before entering our dental operatories
  8. Wait time- to reduce waiting time we will increase each appointment by 30%-40% for additional disinfectant procedures
  9. Our Staff will have the following extra personal protection equipment (PPE) in place:
    1. Protective Plexiglass for reception counter
    2. Face masks and/or face shields
    3. Gowns or lab coats and head covers
    4. High Volume intraoral mouth vacuum (Isolite/Dry shields) to reduce airborne particles with continuous suctioning
    5. Maximum aerosol reduction with extraoral suction
    6. High- efficient particular air (HEPA) purifiers in each operatory
    7. Thorough surface disinfectant between patients

Please read the COVID-19 Waiver form on our website when scheduling your child’s dental appointment.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we are taking to keep you and everyone safe in our practice.

Thank you for being our patient and we look forward to seeing you again.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tran and KDS Team
